Winter Hike: Brülisau
Snowshoes on your feet for this hike in Appenzell.
The first part is the least interesting, climbing up from the village of Brülisau following the summer trail, and then winding along the driveway, with a few short cuts through the hairpin bends between the houses.
You reach the cross at Fähnerenspitz, with a beautiful view of the surrounding valleys. From here, the most inspiring part of the hike begins: first we cross a forest that leads to an exposed ridge and then to a beautiful valley.
Beyond the first farms, we diverted from the trail onto the summer trail (not marked) that descends to Hintere Waldschaft, and then climbs back up to Ruhsitz. Here you'll find a sunny hut where you can catch your breath after the last climb, with a nice view of the valley. The last part of the route descends from here back towards Brülisau, next to the toboggan run where children whiz by on their way back from the summit restaurant.
