Winter Hike: Alp Flix
Short and sweet, this hike is easy and pays off with beautiful scenery without too much effort: a secluded plateau with a few villages, a lone church, and boundless mountain views.
You reach the pretty little village of Sur: there's a small parking at the top of the cluster, and it might be hard to find a spot on a sunny and snowy day. You can comfortably park on the main road, and then walk up for 10 minutes among the houses of the village.
Snowshoes on your feet, follow the path 573 marked by pink poles: this follows for a good part, along the quite steep slope, a summer road. You can follow the road and its long, mild bends, or you can cut between one bend and the next, along the rather steep slope, sinking into the fresh snow (so much fun!). Towards the bottom of the valley you can admire a beautiful view of the villages, and continue upwards through the woods, until you reach the top of the path that leads to a hilly plateau dotted with farms, a mountain hut with a restaurant, a lonely church and small villages with farms and vacation homes.
The windswept plateau is wide, sunny and quiet. You walk for a while among the houses and the snow-covered meadows, and then plunge again, downhill, into a thick forest of pines, among a few scattered ski-tourers making their way through the snow.
An easy and rewarding walk for "green" winter hikers, or for those who want to climb to the top to enjoy some sun and lots of snow.
