North Rim: look at the Grand Canyon from a different perspective
To explore the Grand Canyon, a series of hiking trails descend from the plateaus at the top, to the bottom of the valleys furrowed by Colorado.
These routes begin at both the North and South edges of the enormous canyon. We reached the Grand Canyon from the South, and embarked on one of the hikes that descend and ascend from the South Rim. A hiking trail, which takes a couple of days and is about 40 km long, crosses the canyon from one rim to another, and if you don't have a car waiting for you in one of the two parking lots, it may be the shortest way to get to the other side.
Reaching the North side by car, in fact, is a long journey, as you have to get around the huge chasm, with a route about 350 km long. We also wanted to look at the canyon from another perspective, and on the way to Kanab, we made a detour to reach the North Rim and enjoy at least one sunset on the opposite bank.
Just beyond the visitor center, you'll find the Grand Canyon Lodge, a hotel directly overlooking the North Rim, perched on it, dizzyingly steep. It has incredible views of the canyon, and even if you don't get a chance to stay there (given the high prices and always full rooms), you can still enjoy the view from its restaurant. From here we reached Bright Angel Point, a rocky spur from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of the sunset.
