The gas stations of Route 66
There is no Route 66 without gas stations and tyre shops. The Mother Road is practically covered with petrol pumps, abandoned, decaying, restored, still in operation. Each one has its own charm, and some are unmissable stops, milestones, and even if they are, sometimes, only a copy of the original, they are the beating heart of Route 66. Phillips 66, Texaco, Conoco, names that bring to mind the legendary American road. Stop for gas, take a picture, browse through the collections of items branded R66 or have a milkshake in their diners.
Here is a photo album of the most picturesque ones, proceeding in order from East to West.
