Hi.

Welcome to my blog! I am Lucia, and I would like to share my passion for the World with you.

Hong Kong from above: 2 free spots for a striking view

Hong Kong from above: 2 free spots for a striking view

A city full of skyscrapers can not miss some cool observation decks, with admission fee, lift ride, and a glass floor to observe the city from a privileged perspective.

Hong Kong is no exception, but there is also the possibility to enjoy the view from above without paying the ticket and queuing up with tourists.

1. VISIT THE HKMA INFORMATION CENTRE

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority's information centre is an institution dedicated to connecting financial administration issues with citizens. It hosts a small exhibition that also covers an history of the local minting and a bookshop.

Travellers like me won't be too interested in the content of the exhibition, as much as the fact that it is housed on the 55th floor of the IFC2 Building and offers a spectacular view of Hong Kong's central district.

You enter by showing your passport at the reception and obtaining a temporary badge, all very simple.

The exhibition area is unfortunately confined to the south side of the building, so the view is limited to Central, The Peak and part of the port. But the limited visual range does not make the view opening before your eyes any less impressive.

2. TAKE A BREAK FOR AN AFTERNOON TEA AT THE RITZ-CARLTON HOTEL IN KOWLOON

Another interesting way to get on the (almost) free "rooftop" of Hong Kong is to have a snack break at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Kowloon.

The luxurious hotel is located in the same complex that houses the Sky100 observation platform, which can be accessed with a ticket costing 188HKD (about 21€).

Not everyone knows that, however, on floor 102, in the hotel's Lounge Café, you can sit on the edge of the window and at the same price enjoy a magnificent gourmet dessert or an afternoon tea for a few extra dollars. From this point of view you can see the entire port, just below the building and you have an excellent view of the entire central island. A great way to enjoy the view from above, a break from the city tour and a delicious mango pudding (definitely recommended).
