Downhill through Canyonlands in Moab

Downhill through Canyonlands in Moab

If you've never tried downhill, like me, Moab is the place to do it: routes for all levels, even the most experienced and adventurous cyclists, a huge offer to rent equipment, and fabulous places to launch yourself on a mountain bike. I loved mountain biking in Canyonlands, a slightly different way to experience these great landscapes.

We rented the bikes in Moab, at the Chile Peppers store, which we found following the great reviews on the internet.

We rented two full suspension mountain bikes for about $60/day.

They also provided us with the bike rack for the car, and helped us to mount it all on our flaming mustang before we set off for the Canyonlands. Following the advice of the rental guys, we drove along Route 313 to Dead Horse Point. From here, inside the Canyonlands park, the Dead Horse Point Single Track begins, which makes a loop of about 15 km on a rocky plateau overlooking a deep and vast canyon furrowed by Colorado.

The route to follow is suggested, but not obligatory, on smooth rocky areas, uphill or downhill sections that climb over trunks or roots, sandy clearings where it is difficult to proceed without capitulating if you have no experience. Some rougher, steeper areas, but nothing too hard. First time, for me, on a route like this, and on a real mountain bike, and I had a lot of fun, between some daring tumbles and tiring climbs on the rock.

The most beautiful part, of course, is that in the background there is a breathtaking view of the canyons, and before closing the ring, you can stop for a break in front of this natural spectacle. It took us about 1.5 hours to complete the ring, with a few stops to take pictures and admire the view. This route is absolutely recommended.
