A stay in paradise: Conrad Bora Bora Nui Resort
Bora Bora is a paradise, not only for tourists, but also for hotel chains, and the choice of resorts to stay in is really vast. We, after long research, have chosen the Conrad, a beautiful resort on the small island of Toopua.
Apart from just two hotels that stand out well above the others in terms of exorbitant prices, among others the price difference, however high, is irrelevant, and our choice was guided by other factors.
You can't see the lagoon, with the central peak of Bora Bora as a backdrop. You cross it, by boat from the airport, and you reach a more remote islet, which looks towards the open sea of a surreal blue, and on whose slopes full of green palm trees hide wooden huts that camouflage themselves in the vegetation.
A few clusters of pile-dwellings reach the deepest sea.
The furnishings are elegant, stylish and well-kept, both in the common areas and in the beautiful rooms that occupy independent thatched cottages. They range from the most modest villas on the mainland, to the unapproachable multi-storey presidential villa of 300 square meters, through the beautiful suites on the water.
Connected by wooden bridges that can be crossed by bike, they consist of an entrance hall, a huge bedroom with living room and foldaway TV, an imperial bathroom with marbles and bathtub, and a picturesque terrace on which to relax, with or without a swimming pool, and a fun suspended net caressed by the sea breeze.
We spent 4 fabulous nights in this paradise. During the day we mostly went out on excursions, but also relaxing in the giant central infinity pool that blends in with the sea, exploring the coral reefs around the hotel, strolling through the villas scattered on the hillside to the ocean view spa is definitely not bad.
There are several restaurants, more or less chic. In the main one, a copious breakfast is also served, offering a buffet of every possible dish you could wish for: from French brioches to fruit, from eggs to noodles, from rice to cakes to spicy Pacific food. In the evening this beautiful space, open towards the sea, becomes a good and expensive à la carte restaurant. There is also a more casual bar that serves fish burgers and some less pretentious but still good delicacies, a sushi bar with a transparent floor on the serving unmissable desserts, as well as a very fresh sushi, a Chinese restaurant and a pool bar where you can eat with your feet in the sand.
Room service is also not bad, so you can have a romantic dinner for two looking at the sea. And for those who think big, you can also book a private candlelight dinner, on top of the island, with a view of the lagoon in the background.
The sunset from the hotel is beautiful, whether watching it from the stilts over the sea or from the top of the hill, while the last ray of sunshine illuminates the huts and, in the distance, the waves breaking on the coral reef create a mist that spreads the light.
Prices range from 400 Euro to 1200 Euro per night, depending on the period, the equipment of the villa, the advance booking and the formula chosen. The price of the presidential villa is about 5 digits and 3 zeros, I don't remember exactly, as I probably had already fainted by the fourth number!
