Best restaurants in Rhodes island

Rhodes is one of the most touristic islands in the Dodecanese. This feature, despite of encouraging improvements in catering and cooking, hides the presence of dangerous traps for tourists offering poor quality food at fairly high prices.

Like the other islands of the archipelago, Rhodes has the fortune, from the point of view of cultural enrichment, to have been invested by different cultures and traditions, which have fortunately left the best of themselves in the food.

A careful search for the best gastronomic spots has allowed us to draw up our own list of restaurants not to be missed in Rhodes.

KOUKOS BAKERY, Rhodes

This bizarre intersection of a mountain hut, a rustic farmhouse and a bar with an outdoor terrace, is located in the new town of Rhodes, and is a perfect place for a breakfast or snack in the middle of the morning. Restaurant, bar and bakery, the latter is the heart of the place and bakes delicious focaccia stuffed with vegetables and cheese, as well as inviting chocolate or honey cakes.

PHOURNARIKO BAKERY, Rodi

Passing by this corner of the old town of Rhodes, you can not resist entering to browse, wrapped in the scent of oven that invades all the way. A very rich choice of sweets and bakery products welcomes you and it is almost impossible to choose what to take away. The spanakopita, the savoury cake filled with spinach and feta, is the best we have tasted in Greece.

NIREAS, Rodi

A nice restaurant with outdoor tables under a pergola. Traditional dishes mainly based on fish, with some fusion variations. The salads are very imaginative and pleasant. We realized too late that the most popular dish was fried squid, which seemed to look great. Maybe you could try them and let us know!

MARCO POLO, Rodi

The most famous restaurant in Rhodes is hidden in an anonymous alleyway. You enter a doorway and climb through colorful walls invaded by climbing plants. The raised courtyard is very romantic. The cuisine is gourmet and prices higher than average, but leaves anyway a sweet taste in your mouth. We recommend you not to miss the desserts, a long list of excellent day-specialties.

The service is very attentive, and the restaurant is run by a whole family that will speak to you in every possible language, including Italian.

MYTHOS, Lindos

The entrance to this restaurant, covered with giant photographs of the menu next to statues lit up green does not promise well, but we had to rethink after a succulent dinner of fish that exceeded our expectations. The interior is much more welcoming, and the raised terrace overlooks the acropolis. Every dish that we have tasted, from the fava with the pita, to the saganaki of feta with the figs, to the catch of the day grilled, is to recommend.

ODYSSIA, Lindos

By far our favorite spot in Rhodes. An elegant and sophisticated restaurant in the center of Lindos, with prices just above average, but absolutely proportionate to the quality of the dinner. Each dish had some surprises in store, starting with salted cheesecake with yoghurt and tomato jam and ending with an exceptional dessert with chocolate ganache and hazelnuts. We also enjoyed the revisitation of the shrimp saganaki.

TAVERNA PLATANOS, Lachania

The real gastronomic surprise of Rhodes was this tavern, lost in an inland village not far from the coastal road leading to Prasonissi. Evidently renowned on the island since it was almost complete despite being in a place not easily accessible.

The location is delightful, in the square of the tiny village, with tables placed under the branches of a giant plane tree. The cuisine is more spartan but authentic and tasty. Excellent meatballs with eggplant and wild vegetables, as well as the delicious grilled fish.
